The official website of the Georgia Department of Corrections allows a free Georgia inmate search. Its database contains records on inmates who are currently housed in of Department’s facilities and those who have been released for the past 15 days.

There are only three ways that you can search through the GDC inmate database. The first is by providing an offender’s numeric identifier. You can input the imamate’s GDC ID or Case Number. An inmate’s GDC ID or Georgia Department of Corrections Identification, is a specific number given to each inmate once he or she is in the custody of the Department. A Case Number corresponds to a specific sentencing document. An inmate can only have one GDC ID but can have several case numbers.

The second way to perform a Georgia inmate search on the website is by providing the inmate’s name. You can either enter an inmate’s complete first, middle and last name or just put partial names. The system will give you a list of inmates whose names begin with whatever it is that you have specified.

The last way to do a search is by “Alias”. You have to format the alias of the inmate with the last name first, a comma, and then the first name. There should be no spaces before and after the comma. You need to enter the first two letters of an inmate’s last name if you search through the “Alias” option.

To further your search and get more information on a particular inmate, you could try other websites that can give you more information and records on inmate for a small amount.

In the 1990’s DNA testing started to become popular particularly in the area of Law Enforcement. Old pieces of evidence to include hair, blood and semen which were once not able to provide evidence now were able to be processed and evidence and a DNA profile could be extracted from the materials. Thanks to DNA many unsolved cased were able to be solved and many suspects of crimes were finally able to be charged. DNA has also helped the innocent from wrongful incarceration. DNA evidence is becoming mandatory in states in terms of death row inmates and proving that the right person is behind bars. In 2000, Illinois Governor George Ryan announced his plan to suspend all of the states executions indefinitely. Governor Ryan’s made this landmark statement after DNA testing showed that 13 Illinois death-row prisoners could not have committed the capital crimes of which they were convicted.

DNA is not just putting people in prison; it is also ensuring that those in prison should be there. DNA is being used to confirm the conviction and ensure that the right person is serving time for the crime. In what is bring described as the first effort of it’s kind San Diego prosecutors are reviewing hundreds of old cases to see if longtime prison inmates can be cleared by DNA evidence. If evidence is found, the San Diego County District Attorney’s office will have it tested for free if an inmate agrees. Not only does this get innoscent people out of prison it also helps to build out the national DNA database. Part of the DNA testing of inmates is that the inmate’s DNA will end up in a national database where it may be used to solve other cases which have gone unsolved. San Diego Country Prosecutors are looking at a total of 560 criminal cases.

Since DNA has been introduced thousands of suspects and prison inmates have been cleared and released as a result of DNA evidence showing they could not have been responsible for the crime. A popular case that outlined this is the Larry Youngblood case. Larry Youngblood was convicted in 1985 of child molestation, sexual assault, and kidnapping. He was sentenced to ten years and six months in prison. In October 1983, a ten year old boy was abducted from a carnival in Pima County, Arizona, and molested and sodomized repeatedly for over an hour by a middle aged man. The victim was taken to a hospital, where the staff collected semen samples from his rectum as well as the clothing he was wearing at the time of the assault.

Based on the boy’s description of the assailant as a man with one disfigured eye, Youngblood was charged with the crime. He maintained his innocence at trial, but the jury convicted him, based largely on the eyewitness identification of the victim. No serological tests were conducted before trial, as the police improperly stored the evidence and it had degraded. Expert witnesses at trial stated that, had the evidence been stored correctly, test results might have demonstrated conclusively Youngblood’s innocence.

Larry Youngblood appealed his conviction, claiming the destruction of potentially exculpatory evidence violated his due process rights, and the Arizona Court of Appeals set aside his conviction. He was released from prison, three years into his sentence, but in 1988, the Supreme Court reversed the lower court’s ruling, and his conviction was reinstated (Arizona v. Youngblood, 488 U.S. 51). Youngblood remained free as the case made its way through the Arizona appellate court system a second time, but returned to prison in 1993, when the Arizona Supreme Court reinstated his conviction.

In 1998, Youngblood was released on parole, but was sent back to prison in 1999 for failing to register his new address, as required by Arizona sex offender laws. In 2000, upon request from his attorneys, the police department tested the degraded evidence using new, sophisticated DNA technology. Those results exonerated Youngblood, and he was released from prison in August 2000. The district attorney’s office dismissed the charges against Larry Youngblood that year.

In 1990, the FBI established its database containing genetic profiles from unsolved crimes and from convicted offenders. In October 1998, the FBI’s National DNA Index System (NDIS) became operational. The database is the (CODIS) Combined DNA Index System, a computerized forensic database of DNA “profiles” of offenders convicted of serious crimes (such as rape, other sexual assaults, murder, and certain crimes against children), as well as DNA profiles from unknown offenders. CODIS generates investigative leads in crimes where biological evidence is recovered from the crime scene using two indexes: the forensic and offender indexes. By 1998, every state had enacted legislation establishing a CODIS database and requiring that DNA from offenders convicted of certain serious crimes be entered into the system.

Today, the CODIS database contains about 400,000 DNA profiles, and the number is growing. CODIS is implemented as a circulated database with three tiers – local, state, and national. NDIS is the highest level in the CODIS hierarchy, and enables the laboratories participating in the CODIS Program to exchange and compare DNA profiles on a national level. All DNA profiles originate at the local level (LDIS), then flow to the state (SDIS) and national levels. SDIS allows laboratories within states to exchange DNA profiles. The tiered approach allows state and local agencies to operate their databases according to their specific legislative or legal requirements. It is being enhanced daily through the work of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies who take DNA samples from biological evidence gathered at crime scenes and from offenders themselves. The computerized CODIS system can rapidly identify a perpetrator when it finds a match between an evidence sample and a stored profile. As of 2003, the database had profiled approxminaly 66,000 unsolved cases and more than 1.5 million convicted offenders.

Matches made among profiles in the Forensic Index can link crime scenes together; and even identifying serial offenders. Based on a match, police in multiple jurisdictions can coordinate their respective investigations, and share the leads they developed independently. Matches made between the Forensic and Offender indexes provide investigators with the identity of the perpetrator(s). After CODIS identifies a potential match, qualified DNA analysts in the laboratories contact each other to validate or refute the match.

Everyone benefits from having a national DNA database and DNA information has helped many victims, families and people who were either the victim of a crime or victimized by the criminal justice system and wrongfully convicted. The DNA database provides a very large resource which provides a conclusive way to show whether or not someone had anything to do with a crime. The database has also closed thousands of cases which would have otherwise gone unsolved indefinitely.

Civil rights are considered the natural rights. This set of laws was established to promote freedom and equality among the citizens of a democratic nation. Civil rights protect the citizens from discrimination based on race, class, gender, religion, age, nationality, political party, and disability.

In most countries, both civil and political rights are codified as constitutional rights. They are included and clearly stated in the bill of rights of a particular nation. The United States Bill of Rights refers to the first ten amendments of the United States Constitution. Just like the universality of civil rights in general, the United States Bill of Rights entitles American citizens the following basic constitutional rights:

- The First Amendment protects the citizens’ rights to freedom of speech, religion, and assembly.

This is quite self explanatory. The most important declaration that prohibits the federal government from making laws that may interfere or limit people’s liberty to choose a religion, self expression (free speech and free press), and ability to organize an assembly.

- The Fourth Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizure of their homes and properties.

This law makes sure that people are secured in their own homes and properties by prohibiting unreasonable searches and seizure unless there is a valid warrant of arrest or search warrant ordered by a law enforcement officer. Aside from warrants, there should be a probable reason why the search and seizure needs to be conducted and also it should specify where they are planning to search and what they are planning to take.

- The Fifth Amendment protects citizens against abuse of government authority in a legal procedure.

This law secures procedural protections for criminal defendants and ensures that the government may not deprive a citizen of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.

- The Sixth Amendment protects the citizens’ rights to a speedy and public trial, trial by a jury, and a right to counsel.

- The Eighth Amendment protects citizens against federal government abuse in the form of excessive bail, excessive fines, cruel and unusual punishments.

Bail, in general, pertains to the amount of money deposited to temporarily release a suspect from jail granted that he/she will return for trial proper. Excessive bails and fines are prohibited by law. On the other hand, examples of cruel and unusual punishment regardless of crime are: burning alive, boiling to death, disembowelment, and other forms of torture. The execution of people under 18 and those who are mentally incapacitated are considered violations of the Eighth Amendment. However in most civil and criminal cases, there is much debate on what punishments are acceptable or not. Most often it all depends on the severity of the crime committed.

A lot of questions have continually emerged as to what extent the government can intervene in the ever changing issues that society has faced through out time. Although there is a remarkable improvement from the time of the Civil Rights Movement, issues concerning discrimination are still a work in progress. One thing’s for sure, if people are deprived of their civil and political rights, history has it that social unrest may be inevitable.

Harry Houdini: An Introduction To His Life And Works

Born in 1874, Harry Houdini would become one of the world’s most renowned magicians. He began his magic career performing in sideshows at cheap attractions known as Dime Museums. He played the Wild Man in circus acts and taught himself all of the traditional card tricks.

He began the rudimentary versions of his escape acts in the 1890s. He met his wife while he and his brother Dash were performing at Coney Island under the billing of The Brothers Houdini. Bess Rahner replaced Dash and the program was renamed The Houdinis. Bess remained Harry’s stage assistant for the rest of his career.

In 1899, Harry met another person who would become a vital part of his professional career- manager Martin Beck. It was Beck who encouraged the young magician to focus more on the escape acts and less on the more traditional magic. Beck booked The Houdinis on a vaudeville circuit. The act was so popular that the duo was on stage at the best vaudeville houses within months. They then toured Europe, where Harry became known as “The Handcuff King” due to his ability to escape from those restraints.

As part of his act, Houdini would encourage the local police to put him in handcuffs and lock him up in their jail- often after allowing them to conduct a strip search. These antics brought him a great deal of success and material wealth. He was able to purchase a gorgeous dress, originally made for Queen Victoria, as a present to his mother and a home stateside in Harlem, New York (where it remains standing to this day).

In the early 1900s, Houdini was back in the United States performing and escaping from entrapments such as handcuffs, jails, ropes, chains and straightjackets- often when hanging from rope in plain view of the audience. Imitators began to spring up, inspiring Houdini to move his escapes to water filled cans. The chance of his drowning brought the audiences back in. He encouraged others to come up with things from which he could escape. These entrapments ran a wide gamut from mailbags to nailed shut crates to the belly of a whale that had washed on shore.

Houdini never claimed that his escapes were due to any supernatural powers, but promotional materials from the time claimed he could “dematerialize”. He did let out some of the “tricks” behind his stunts while he was alive to others in th

e magic community. Many types of locks and cuffs could be opened with the proper amount of applied force. Some others could be opened with shoe strings. He often carried picks or keys hidden on his body and could regurgitate a small key. When he was tied or straitjacketed, he allowed for space to move by puffing out his chest and shoulders, moving his arms away from the rest of his body and then dislocating his shoulders.

Houdini’s death has become a sort of legend on its own. After one of his shows, Houdini was approached backstage by a college student named J. Gordon Whitehead. Whitehead asked if there were truth to the rumor that the magician could take any hit to the stomach. Whitehead hit Houdini three times before the magician said to stop. There were several more blows put in during which Houdini seemed to be in pain. That incident occurred on October 22, 1926 and Houdini did not die immediately. He made it to a show in Michigan on the 24th and performed with a high fever. He was diagnosed with acute appendicitis but refused treatment. He died of peritonitis caused by a ruptured appendix on Halloween night of 1926. He was 52 years old.

Suspicion of infidelity is a horrible thing.

It can cause insecurity, anxiety, fear, sleeplessness, depression, and can occupy your thoughts and mind all hours of the day and night.

You begin to speculate: What did I do to drive him/her them away? Did I love him/her them enough? Did I smother him/her? Will I ever trust him/her again? Will our relationship ever be the same? What does the other person have that I don’t?

After a while your health can suffer and your performance at work can suffer.

And then it starts to affect others.

Your children can become aware that something is “wrong with Mommy and Daddy”, and they too can feel insecurity, anxiety, fear, sleeplessness…

RED FLAGS:

Usually, the thing that will tip you off is a change in behavior.

So, let’s look at just a few of the behaviors that you might observe, if your loved one was being unfaithful:

Behavior At Home: Your partner or spouse…

¨ Appears distant, show a lack of interest or develop an unexplained aloofness

¨ Is frequently tired or lack interest in the relationship

¨Comes home smelling of an unfamiliar fragrance

¨Wears perfume/cologne much more often than usual

¨Arrives home and heads straight into the shower/bath

¨Gets dressed up a little too well (to) for trips to the grocery or running some other kind of errand or menial task

¨Begins to speak more and more harshly to you, or are more sarcastic. Sometimes this is just an attempt to justify their cheating…or to give them an excuse to storm out of the room/house

¨Asks about your schedule more often than usual

¨Develops an increased focus on losing weight or pays more attention to their appearance

¨Stops wearing his/her wedding ring and, when asked, can’t give a reasonable explanation

Romance: Your partner or spouse…

¨Is no longer interested in sex, or he/she makes excuses for its infrequency.

¨Starts to request kinky or other erotic sexual activity (behavior) that you’ve never done before, including watching porn

¨Shows a “new talent” in the bedroom (that they might have learned from the individual with whom they’ve been cheating)

¨Appears reluctant to kiss you, or show affection toward you.

¨Criticizes you for showing him/her attention.

¨Continues giving poor excuses for why he/she is not in the mood to make love.

Work-related: Your partner or spouse…

¨Work longer hours, more frequently…and keep you from viewing their paycheck/pay-stubs

¨Changes their established routine with no apparent reason

¨Begins discouraging you from calling him/her them at work

¨Is often “unavailable” when you try to call him/her at work.

¨Returns calls long after you leave a message for him/her.

¨Prefers to attend work functions (or any events) alone and tries to discourage you from attending.

¨Takes more trips for business reasons and even refuses to let you drive him/her to the airport.

Telephone Mannerisms: Your partner or spouse…

¨Receives “mysterious” phone calls.

¨You get an increasing number of hang-ups or “wrong numbers” when you pick up the phone. Especially if the caller hangs up after hearing your voice and doesn’t speak, because often (though not always) is a person who makes a “real” wrong number will at least ask, “Is Fred there?” before hanging up.

¨Phone bills show unexplained toll or long distance charges.

¨Hurriedly answers the phone to answer it before you do.

¨Leaves the room to talk on the phone.

¨Whispers while on the phone.

¨ Suddenly need a cell phone (or pager) and discourages you from looking at or using the phone or pager.

¨Deletes numbers from “caller ID”.

¨Behaves differently or ends the telephone calls abruptly when you enter the room. Or appears to hang up quickly.

Paper Trails:

¨Finding credit card receipts for gifts you didn’t receive.

¨An increase in ATM withdrawals. Especially those from out-of-town (receipts bear a time/date stamp).

¨Credit card receipts showing purchases from places that unknown to you or seem suspect

¨He/she rushes to get the mail before you do.

¨She/he gets a separate P.O. Box.

¨Unusual phone numbers appear on the bill.

¨The duration and time of the calls appear excessive.

¨He/She are secretive about their cell phone bill.

¨She/He starts to pay the phone bills or credit card bills themselves.

¨ You notice business travel or other deductions for travel or other expenses that you were unaware of.

Automobile related:

¨The passenger’s seat is adjusted differently than you had left it.

¨Taking child seat out of the car for no particular reason.

¨Finding suspicious items like phone numbers, receipts, lipstick, condoms or strange hairs in the vehicle.

¨Keeping a change of clothes in the trunk.

¨Unexplainable mileage or a lack of additional mileage. For example, if your spouse state they went out of town yet the odometer indicates that only a distance of 25 miles had been driven. Conversely, if your spouse states they’d only been to the office that day, yet their odometer shows many more miles ad been driven, this too, may be a significant matter.

Computer-related:

¨They warily guard access to their computer.

¨They shut down the computer as you walk into the room.

¨They add password protection their computer.

¨Or they stay up to “work” on the computer long after you’ve gone to bed.

¨They have unusual sites showing in their “browser history”, or erase them after each late-night session.

¨They delete email message more frequently

Again, let me reiterate that these behaviors are only indicators of infidelity and are not absolutes.

Some cheaters are very deceitful and can cover their tracks superbly. They may become more attentive in an effort to compensate for the fact that their attentions are going elsewhere. They behave like “model” parents in an effort to alleviate their guilt. They can juggle the extra-marital relationship, while tending to the marriage in a seemingly flawless way.

They may also have friends that will help them to get out of the house or provide alibis for the cheater.

These are the people who are the hardest to catch, and the ones who cause the most pain when they are finally caught.

These constitute even more reason to consider retaining the services of a professional investigator.

When You Begin to suspect, just observe -don’t accuse:

If, after some consideration, you begin to have suspicions then don’t accuse, but just observe.

If you accuse your partner and are mistaken, you risk causing unnecessary and irreparable damage to your relationship…damage that may take a lot of time to recover from.

And, even if you are correct, it’s quite possible that your spouse/partner will be able to explain their behavior in a manner that’s sufficient to cause you raise reasonable doubt. And, because they are now aware that you are suspicions, they will be even more careful and more guarded, making it much more difficult for you to determine the truth.

If you become suspicious, don’t treat the cheater any differently and don’t interfere.

Now is the time for careful observation, and not for anger.

The cheater will eventually be found out, so it’s important to be patient, observant, and to make note of patterns of behavior.

After some patient observation you’ll probably be able to provide a great deal of helpful information to a

professional investigator, so that the investigator can obtain the evidence and documentation you need.

Make note of information such as: the most likely days/times when your partner may be misbehaving, places your partner alleges to frequent, people with whom your partner alleges to keep company.

The more information you have (regardless of whether you think it’s important or not), the greater the likelihood an investigator can determine the truth…and do it in the most cost-effective manner.

A final word of caution:

If you think a spouse or partner is misbehaving while you’re out of town, you may consider pretending to plan a trip out of town, in order to conduct your own surveillance and confirm your suspicions.

You should be discouraged from doing this is because if your suspicions are confirmed, your emotions may cause you to react in a manner that is counter-productive.

Emotions can make all us behave in a reactionary way, and at moments like this, it’s vitally important to keep a cool head.

So, if this idea still appeals to you, consider having a private investigator conduct surveillance during this time.

Absolutely certain your spouse/partner –IS- cheating?

Once you’ve observed your spouse or partner for a sufficient amount of time, you may eventually feel that it is necessary to confront him/her your spouse.

How do you handle it?

If your intention is to file for divorce if your suspicion is confirmed, then first seek the counsel of an attorney.

It is important to understand your options before you decide to confront him/her.

Find out about how to protect yourself financially, and get an understanding of the laws regarding child custody and support.

If you feel you absolutely must confront the alleged cheater, make sure to do so at a time when he/she is not rushed or running late. You want them to have time to speak with you. You don’t want them to have a reason to leave the room/house.

Don’t ask while he/she is driving and of course: don’t ask while children are present.

Before you actually confront them, ask simple, non-invasive questions to get an idea of their general attitude and willingness to talk in general. You will do this for the same reason that a person operating a polygraph machine might: to establish an idea of their “baseline”.

So, for example, ask what they want for breakfast, or they have planned for the day…or anything else that they can respond to easily. Then just observe their general behavior.

Once you finally confront the person, you’ll need to carefully observe their behavior.

You can expect him/her to be defensive. They may become evasive and reply with something like, “What makes you think that?” (trying to see where they’d slipped up).

Or, they get indignant, “Why on earth would you say such a thing?” or “I’m offended that you would say such a thing!”

Often, innocent people will respond directly by saying, “Yes” or “No”. They are more likely to respond to your

inquiry directly, kindly and patiently. They are more likely to show that they are willing to discuss your concerns and

to address those things that caused you to doubt in the first place.

Cheaters are generally very uncomfortable about addressing the issue and may “explode” and become very defensive and angry.

When confronting them, if may help to inquire about specific occasions when you -know- for certain what the truth is, so you can see if they are lying. This is where a private investigators documentation and report can come in handy because they can provide undeniable truth that can reveal their lies and deceits.

Finally: Do not resort to violence.

I cannot stress this enough. Criminal charges and possible jail time will cause you to suffer and will keep you from making sure the cheater gets what they deserve.

If you are the victim of a cheater, then you will probably have some very important decisions to make.

So, the first step is always to determine the unbiased, objective truth.

To make sure that you know the truth, consider retaining the services of a professional investigator.

They have the experience to deal with these matters objectively and clear-headedly.

They also have the equipment necessary to obtain the proof you’ll need in case you go to court.

And if you have an attorney, your investigator should work with them to make sure that their combined efforts focus on making sure you reap the maximum benefit.

If your spouse or partner is cheating on you, it forces you into making some very important decisions.

The decisions are not only about your own future, but also about your children’s future as well.

We make our best decisions when we know the truth and understand the reality of things.

The decisions may not be easy, but they are still the best decisions we can make.

A prison inmate walks into a bar and orders a drink?

The guard opens his cell, take his head out of the bars and beats him senseless for being a wiseass.

“I am writing to you from a very lonely prison cell,” he wrote. “Three days ago I lost my mother to cancer. I was thinking about ending my life… but when I found your name and address in a used newspaper I felt as if this was the answer to my cry for help.”

Deeply touched, I put the letter down. I felt genuine empathy for Jack in this, his time of grief and loneliness. It was mid November when received the letter arrived.

He went on to write, “I do hope you are the kind of people my mom always spoke so highly of. Share my name at church, in hopes of me receiving a special holiday wish. I would love to have at least one Christmas card…my mom’s card would have been the only one I received.”

As I continued to be drawn into Jack’s loneliness I read further. “It breaks my heart to know that while other men will be opening up their many Christmas greeting cards and opening up their J. C. Penny Prison catalog order, I’ll be left standing all alone. Mom could never afford a Christmas package, so that won’t hurt so bad, but to be able to have a nice Christmas card and fellowship with the people my mom always believed in would surely put a big smile on this sad face.”

Stirred to action, I wasted no time. I e-mailed my family and friends a copy of Jack’s letter asking them to send him a Christmas greeting. Then I contacted an associate pastor at my church and asked him to have the adult Bible fellowship classes collect signatures and greetings from the members.

I felt good. Affirmed. Prison ministry is important I reminded myself.

There are thousands of men and women in prison today who are looking for friendship. Many of these prisoners feel like social outcasts. They are isolated from family and friends. Prisoners love to receive mail.

It is usually difficult and often impossible for prisoners to find friendship among the prison population. Many inmates have registered for pen pals on Internet sites. Yahoo lists about 30,000 and Google has over 35,000 sites listed. One site alone registered one million visits in the year 2001.

Prison Fellowship Ministries have a Pen Pal Program that matches convicts to Christian volunteers. This is a prison pen pal site for inmates in need of a caring friend.

This site and others like it attempt to bring friendship and hope to lonely prisoners. The programs try to help ease the loneliness of the incarcerated. I have read that ninety percent of inmates lose all contact with family and friends after 3 years. They soon feel loss of dignity, self-worth and self-respect. A letter or a card from a pen pal can lift their spirits.

Jack’s letters continued to come. He told me of the excitement of receiving some cards and letters in response to my becoming his friend. He shared how delighted he was to receive the Bible and some Bible lessons I had sent. Near the end of one of his letters I became disturbed. Jack wrote, “My feet are old and I don’t own a coat. These are cold winters in the Cumberland Mountains. They tell me up here to get a pair of Timberland boots.” Jack went on give specific information on the cost of the boots and detailed money order instructions.

My niece, Jenny, had written to Jack. “I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I just lost my Dad one month ago so I think I know at least some of the sorrow you are feeling.”

The reason for my concern about Jack’s request was not the cold winter in the Cumberland Mountains, but the sense that I had been used in furthering a “con game”. Jenny’s letter included the same request as I did for “Timberland Boots, number 31052 C, Size 9, tan, and a warm coat with a hood, number 94271B”.

I later learned that a family from the church had received the request as well. I felt both annoyed and betrayed. I was embarrassed that I had been taken in. I had been conned by a con…or had I?

When you become a prison pen pal it is important that you be alert to known scams. You should be aware that institutions provide all the basic needs of an inmate. Even educational programs are often free to prisoners. If an inmate is requesting a donation for something that seems unusual, contact the prison administration before sending money.

Many people would never consider writing to a prisoner. If you do find someone you would like to write to, don’t hesitate. Most are honest about what they are looking for; however, use good judgment and common sense, just as you would with anyone on the outside. The majority of inmates is lonely and desperately need a new friend. Most look forward to be transitioned back into a productive life after prison. Your friendship can be a positive influence.

When I didn’t respond to Jack’s request, he stopped writing. I had learned a good lesson, early. I have since corresponded with many individual prisoners. My experience has been good. I trust that I have been a help and encouragement to these convicts. However, I often think of Jack and wonder if he ever bought the Timberland boots and the warm winter coat with the hood, for the cold walks in the yard behind the walls of Cumberland prison, in the state of Maryland.

Ambassador Leo Wanta’s righteous quest to repatriate $4.5 trillion back into the U.S. economy has taken a twisted and disturbing turn for the worse, according to Michael C. Cottrell, treasurer of AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc., the corporation formed to distribute the money to the American people.

Cottrell said James R. Wilkinson, deputy national security advisor for communications, last Thursday signed off on the release of the money being held in a Clearing House Interbank Payment System credit account (CHIPS), an account credited to Goldman Sachs and Co. at Citibank.

Wilkinson and Henry M. Paulson, Jr., secretary of the Treasury, are the only two officials with signature approval over the $4.5 trillion Wanta money, but both have failed to comment publicly.

Wilkinson assumed his post in 2003 after serving as Director of Strategic Communications for General Tommy R. Franks. In his present position, he reports directly to the National Security Advisor and the White House with the specific task of crafting long-term messaging for the National Security Council.

However, according to Cottrell, after Wilkinson officially “signed-off” on the $4.5 trillion, disturbing twists and turns began to take place as the funds never were properly directed into Ambassador Wanta’s account.

“We tried calling Paulson a week ago, but his secretary told us, point blank, never expect a call back from him – ever,” said Cottrell Wednesday in an extended telephone conversation about the reluctance of the highest officials in the land to release trillions that would benefit the American economy.

Instead, after repeated inquiries, Cottrell learned the Bush administration had deviously devised an illegal plan to defraud Ambassador Wanta and, in turn, the American people by diverting the CHIPS account first to the Deutsche Bank/Berlin and then to two other banks.

Cottrell added this method of “signing-off and then transferring credit accounts” is used by less than scrupulous individuals as a financial smokescreen, giving the appearance the money is being released when, in fact, it is being illegally diverted for other purposes.

“They have been lying to everyone and it is clear they never want to release the $1.6 trillion into the U.S. Treasury. They are simply trying to steal the money and it appears they really want to bring down the economy and the country,” said Cottrell, referring to the $1.6 trillion to be paid by Ambassador Wanta in federal taxes generated by the massive $4.5 trillion settlement.

Concerning the specific details of how officials are planning to illegally divert the Wanta money, Cottrell added:

“The process involves applying the credit of the Goldman Sachs chip to Deutsche Bank/Berlin’s books. And then Deutsche Bank, through its subsidiaries, using that credit, which is illegal, begins doing a buy and sell on bank instruments, deriving a substantial profit which would eventually come back to one of several U.S. banks, for example, Wachovia.

“To verify this we have been contacted by three different credible sources telling us that this is exactly what’s going on behind the scenes with Ambassador Wanta’s money.

“But the main thing to remember is that the credit chip ($4.5 trillion) at Goldman and Sachs that’s under Wilkinson and Paulson’s signatures is specifically tagged for AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc., /Ambassador Leo Wanta and not for any other purpose which would be highly illegal.”

In what has become known in international financial circles as one of the most important and explosive stories in the history of modern banking, the Wanta settlement has been the subject of a Bush administration cover-up ever since Ambassador Wanta entered into an official written agreement in November 2005 to repatriate money for the betterment of the American economy.

Further, in May Wanta verbally agreed to the distribution of the $4.5 trillion with President Bush along with the assistance of one Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) court judge and two U.S. Supreme Court Justices.

The settlement, also negotiated with the help of two major U.S. law firms, represents only a portion of the $27.5 trillion offshore fund established at the end of the Cold War, which is now under the legal control of Ambassador Wanta, as duly appointed trustor, a position given to him by former President Ronald Reagan.

Furthermore, it was always the intention of President Reagan and Ambassador Wanta to use the money for the benefit of the American people. But after Reagan left the political spotlight, Wanta was indiscriminately and illegally jailed by operatives working for the last three presidential administrations, who have instead pilfered the trillions for their own agenda and personal gain.

After Wanta’s release from a Wisconsin jail in 2005, he was instructed in a 2003 memorandum opinion by Federal Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, to try and return the $27.5 trillion to U.S. coffers according to President Reagan’s instructions.

The $4.5 trillion settlement is a culmination of his efforts after finding a dark and ominous financial trail of theft, bribery and deception, discovering in his quest to retrace the whereabouts of the offshore money that much of it had been stolen or diverted for private use by the last three presidential administrations.

Wanta also discovered, to his dismay, that a CIA disinformation campaign had been waged, spreading false rumors of his death, making it easier for those criminals inside the government to abscond with trillions.

To date he has provided the Arctic Beacon with documentation of more than $745 billion in stolen funds, including accounts leading to Bush. Sr., Neil Bush and former President Clinton. Wanta added that, at the time he entered into the settlement in May, he had further identified upwards of $2 trillion in stolen funds from accounts under his control, keeping the documentation as financial leverage in case the $4.5 trillion settlement falls through.

And since President Bush was notified in writing of the settlement in July, observers claim his “false American colors” have come shining through as he placed an immediate illegal hold on the money in an effort to protect the “financial dike from exploding” and the criminals in government being exposed, instead of doing the right thing and injecting an immediate trillion dollar boost into the American economy.

Regarding the possibility of a release of the much needed Wanta funds, Cottrell pointed to Sept. 7 as a date to watch. He said this date is important as the Chinese government has verbally backed Wanta’s repatriation efforts, linking it together with earned investments owed the Chinese by the U.S. in the amount of $32 trillion.

After learning of the Wanta settlement and the fact the Ambassador was still alive, the Chinese set a Sept. 7 due date for the return of their investment money, long since frozen by U.S. authorities in what has become known as the “China Foundation Money.”

“The link between Ambassador Wanta and the $32 trillion owed the Chinese goes back to the days of World War II-Cold War and connections with his Chinese business partner, Howe Kwong-Kok,” said Cottrell, who also will appear on Greg Szymanski’s radio show, The Investigative Journal, on Thursday at 1pm central at http://www.rbnlive.com and 2pm central at http://www.gcnlive.com to discuss the financial details of the Wanta story. “Out of loyalty and respect, the Chinese have thrown their support behind Ambassador Wanta and have applied added pressure so that U.S authorities release the money.

“It is also interesting that Treasury Secretary Paulson is on his way to China Thursday and we will have to wait and see if the administration does the right thing.”

In other related financial shenanigans of an estimated $300 trillion in offshore money at the disposal of Bush Sr. and others intentionally diverting it from the American economy, Cottrell reported that $25 trillion of related offshore funds has been illegally sent to India in order to remove the funds from the immediate spotlight being shone into the eyes of the criminal gangs operating at the very heart of the U.S. Government and its structures.

The India connection, previously reported by Christopher Story of the International Currency Review of London, detailed the sophisticated money laundering scheme aimed at defrauding Ambassador Wanta, foreign governments owed money under the Reagan Cold War protocols and, of course, the much maligned American people.

“Specifically, the proceeds of these fund-washing operations are placed back onto the books from which funds were diverted, with the self-enrichment profits being transferred to India in the form of bonds. The key perpetrators of these continuing frauds include the President and Vice President of the United States, George W. Bush and Richard Cheney, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, Dr Ben Bernanke, the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Donald Rumsfeld, and also two successive Secretaries of the Treasury (John Snow and Henry M. Paulson).

Story continued: “Without going into excessive detail, the illegal operations have the effect of laundering U.S. dollars, including American taxpayers’ funds of course, off the books, in collaboration with corrupt foreign officials and elected leaders with the crooked, illegal proceeds being placed back onto the books where ‘holes’ created by previous organized financial scams need most urgently to be plugged.

“These ongoing frauds, sanctioned at the highest levels, enable past giga-financial scams to be covered up while holders of high office participate in successive fraudulent transactions off the books with corrupt foreign counterparties lodging their illegal untaxed profits offshore. The attitude of the criminals involved is that the purpose of holding high office is self-enrichment, rather than serving the US nation and the abused American people.”

Besides the Wanta settlement and Chinese money owed, under the Reagan protocols Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico and Spain are involved, having a special interest in the way U.S. authorities handle the Wanta settlement and the offshore money since they are due to be paid $5 billion each. In addition, $30 billion is payable to the Russian Federation.

Asked about the impending worldwide ramifications if the U.S. fails to meet its commitments, Cottrell said:

“The ramifications are, one, that the Chinese will pull the plug on all their credit chips and, two, that all the banks will also withhold or not deal with any transactions that involves the U.S. government.

“In other words, the long term financial ramifications are that the U.S. would become insolvent and go into bankruptcy as the economy comes tumbling down unnecessarily on the American people.”

Getting involved in a lawsuit can be a very stressful situation, regardless of which side you are on. To limit the stress, it often helps to understand the process and stages of litigation.

The Stages of Civil Litigation

What is civil litigation? Civil litigation is a lawsuit whereby a party seeks damages against another party. The damages can come in the form of money or the modification of some type of conduct. For instance, one can sue for breach of contract if another party fails to live up to the terms of a written agreement. One can also sue for a restraining order to bar a competitor from using various business property such as intellectual property rights. Importantly, civil litigation is not a criminal matter, to wit, the party that loses the case does not go to jail.

The first stage of civil litigation is the pleading stage. The pleading stage simply refers to the filing of the complaint against the party that is the defendant. The defendant then has the right to contest certain elements of that complaint. The defendant can object on the grounds that the complaint does not state a cause of action against them or frivolous matters are included in the language of the complaint, to name a few arguments. At this point, the court will either find a complaint to be with or without merit. If the Court throws out the plaintiff’s complaint, the plaintiff is usually allowed to amend the language and refile it.

The next stage of civil litigation is discovery. Discovery is simply the process of learning what evidence each side has regarding the dispute. Typically a party can ask to see any supporting documents the other side has and ask them questions. Questions can be asked in written form through a legal document known as interrogatories. Questions can also be asked orally by the party’s legal counsel in a process known as a deposition. Other methods of discovery also include request for admissions, special interrogatories and various other methods specific to your state. Yep, all the rules are set forth by state in most cases.

Once discovery comes to a close, the defendant will often file something known as a motion for summary judgment. A summary judgment motion is simply an argument by the defendant that the evidence provided by the plaintiff in the case does not support a claim against the defendant. In moving for summary judgment, the court considers the law on the books and the evidence provided by the plaintiff. It views the evidence in a light most favorable to the plaintiff before making the decision. If the court finds in favor of the defendant, the lawsuit is over. At this point, the plaintiff can either abandon the lawsuit or file an appeal to have a higher court review the matter.

Assuming the plaintiff survives a motion for summary judgment, the next technical step of a lawsuit is to actually go to trial. Before that happens, however, the parties are usually sent to an arbitration hearing in which a mediator tries to cut a deal between the parties. This process is also known as a settlement conference. If they settlement cannot be reached, the court will then set the matter for trial and off you go.

At the end of the day, the average civil lawsuit will take a while to get from filing of the complaint to trial. The exact time is dependent upon the state you live in and how busy the courts are. Criminal matters tend to take precedent over civil matters, so you can often be waiting awhile. In fact, it can often take a year or more before a civil matter goes to trial.

Digging into the Leo Wanta story a little deeper, several old newspaper articles and interviews surfaced from the late 1990’s filling in a few more pieces of the mysterious puzzle surrounding the man who has been dubbed The $27.5 Trillion Dollar Man.

Two of the articles were written in 1997 about Wanta’s Wisconsin tax evasion case by the late Sarah McClendon, a senior White House correspondent who covered 10 Presidents.

Several other interviews, one in particular written around the same time by a lesser known journalist, severely questioned Wanta’s credibility, calling him an international high finance con man instead of a trusted former Treasury agent fighting for the rights of the American people, as he has claimed and been depicted in numerous recent articles.

Although the full details of Wanta’s past may never be fully known, those who believe him claim he is an honorable, God-faring man who has uncovered and trying to expose trillions of offshore money stolen by the last three Presidential administrations.

However, those more skeptical of Wanta’s true intentions claim he is either being used by the powers that be or working together with them for a larger purpose unknown to the people. If this be the case, who the real controllers in the background also remain unknown, but several researchers point to the Vatican and the Jesuit Order.

As background, Wanta assumed the name, The $27.5 Trillion Dollar Man , after recently going public with an incredible story of huge offshore slush funds and CIA undercover intrigue, including a failed attempt to arrest international criminal Marc Rich and $250 million handed over by Wanta to Vince Foster in Switzerland only two weeks before his untimely death in a Washington D.C. park.

As the Wanta story unfolded during the last year, he claimed to be the legal trustor of more than $27.5 trillion in offshore money amassed after he was assigned by President Reagan to destabilize the Russian currency at the end of the Cold War.

After Reagan left the scene, Wanta claimed to be at odds with the last three presidential administrations since their intentions were to use the money for their own covert purposes instead of using the money like Reagan intended for the betterment of the American people.

For his steadfast loyalty, Wanta was first jailed in Switzerland for 133 days and then spent the better part of a decade in a Wisconsin jail for what he has called a bogus tax evasion charge.

Upon his release about a year and a half ago, he set out on a quest to repatriate the money and in June supposedly entered into a deal with U.S. authorities to return $4.5 trillion for the betterment of the U.S. economy.

But instead of the money being used properly, it has been supposedly languishing in either a Bank of America or Citibank account, being held up by the Bush administration who Wanta claims is using it for their own nefarious purposes.

While waiting for the money to be released or while watching the story be used as another ploy to help further a downfall of the U.S economy, here are the McClendon 1997 articles and several others about Wanta reprinted in order to fill in some of the missing gaps.

It should be noted in response to the article highly critical of Wanta by Mike Miller of the Capitol Times, Wanta has claimed the target of a massive CIA smear campaign as well as being targeted with numerous death threats. Two other interviews with Wanta are also included as well as other interesting comments made in and around the same time frame of 1997.

Breaking Out of Jail: The Kabbalah of Transformation

Who are you? Are you a mother, father, child, friend, spiritual seeker, doctor, lawyer, teacher, business person? A husband or wife?

And what kind of person are you? A good person, a not-so-good person? Smart or stupid, graceful or clumsy? Are you talented, bold, wimpy, fearless, fearful, articulate, shy? Do you enjoy taking risks, or are you afraid to try new things? Do you like to let it all hang out, or are you shut up like a clam? Whatever your answers, you will almost certainly have a fair number of pretty definite beliefs and opinions about yourself. And those beliefs and opinions, whether expressed or not, will limit and define you as certainly as if they were made out of concrete and steel.

Several years ago a magnificent young tiger was imported from India and shipped to a local zoo in the States. A beautiful and expansive habitat was built for him, complete with waterfall, trees, rocks, valleys and caves. While the building was going on, the tiger was housed in a small temporary cage, approximately 30 by 30 feet. It spent its days continuously pacing the cage from one end to the other. This cage was originally intended to house the tiger on a very temporary basis – for only a couple of weeks- but the building took longer than expected and the tiger actually remained in the cage for several months. When the habitat was finally complete, the cage was lowered into it, opened, and removed. The tiger almost immediately resumed pacing – 30 feet forward and 30 feet back. It no longer needed the small cage to limit and confine it; this cage, which once surrounded the tiger, had been transplanted into the tiger’s mind.

A similar mechansim is familiar to the people who train elephants. When the elephant is young and small, it is strongly tethered to something large and heavy; a strong stake or a tree. The elephant pulls and tugs, but cannot free itself, and eventually gives up, confining its movements to the length of the rope. As soon as this happens, the tree can be replaced by a small stake that the now much larger elephant could pull up in an instant. Only it doesn’t. Stake, rope, and confinement have become indelibly associated in the elephant mind.

Does this ring any bells for you?

Do you ever say to yourself: “I can’t, I’m just not that type”? If you answer ‘no’, look harder, because in one arena or another we all do. Some people can’t parachute out of planes. Some of us just can’t keep our houses organized. Some of us can’t stop overeating or overdrinking. Some can’t talk about our feelings. Some can’t get ourselves to work, and others can’t stop working. And we almost always think we know, in any given area, whether we have what it takes, or not.

Just like our zoological friends, the ties that bind us are almost always thicker, stronger and more real as they exist inside our heads than they are in the actual physical world. The way we react to our beliefs about ourselves, life, other people, and what we can and can’t do is no different than the tiger’s reaction to his months in the cage or the elephant’s to his rope.

We don’t start out life with fixed ideas about who we are and what we can and can’t do, but we begin to develop them pretty quickly, and continue to reinforce them as we go along. If you decide as a small child that your ideas are not important, chances are that throughout life you will continue to act on that belief, avoiding sharing your ideas with others and thus having little influence on the people around you. This pattern of behavior, of course, will continue to ensure that very few people will seek out your opinions or advice, continuously providing more evidence for your original belief. This is one definition of a vicious cycle. However, remember that this doesn’t make you unusual. Virtually every human being, no matter how functional his upbringing, has some fixed ideas about who he is – and who he isn’t.

But Kabbalah explains this phenomenon in a deeper way.

Since caught in the act of eating from the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden and exiled into a world of hardship, pain, death and the struggle for survival, we human beings have been imbued with feelings of fear, insecurity, shame, guilt, self-consciousness, failure, and the pervasive sense of being exiled from home. A good portion of our lives consists of trying to deny, overcome or compensate for these feelings. At first glance this seems like an enormous problem. It takes a massive amount of time and effort to constantly be fighting to overcome our inner flaws and fears. But in fact, this seminal event, with all of its challenging consequences, is neither a problem nor a mistake and actually has a Divine purpose.

Kabbalah explains that G-d first looked into the Torah (the Bible) and only then created the world. That means before G-d even created the world, He foresaw the entire scenario in the Garden of Eden, including the eating of the forbidden fruit and the exile that would follow. As paradoxical as it seems at first glance, this scenario is actually fundamental to creation itself.

Let me explain.

Part of the intent in Creation is that we should not remain passive recipients of G-d’s largesse. Rather, G-d gave us the greatest gift of all – the potential to become true partners in creation. This is a gift that was not given to even the most holy angels, but was reserved for us, specifically because we are souls in very physical bodies, and trapped within our fixed and limited sense of who we are and what’s possible for us. Only because we are finite and disconnected from the truth do we have the ability to exercise free choice. And only those who are gifted with free choice have the power to create something new; to transform darkness into light.

Childhood is intentionally designed to reactivate and give a personal flavor to the limiting emotional states that were imprinted in human psyche during the exile from the Garden. Your particular experience and predispositions combine to create your ego-based identity, your persona. This part of you tells stories, gives opinions, makes judgments, has reactions, and is programmed to reinforce and defend itself in exactly these ways. It is on the one hand part of what defines you uniquely as you, but on the other a highly restrictive, limiting structure, like a piece of very dark, even opaque glass superimposed over a clear window. It is the most external, surface layer of who you are, which conceals all of the more internal layers. Because it’s the most visible, it appears to be the most real.

But there is a truer you. And the purpose of each and every obstacle in your life and all of your reactions to those obstacles is to allow that truer you to shine through.

And at this time, when, as prophesied, the Divine wisdom of Kabbalah has become accessible to the average person, the time has come for just that to happen.

Every Olympic athlete has spent thousands upon thousands of hours testing and expanding his limits; jumping hurdles – or the equivalent – in order to access a latent power that would otherwise never be expressed and to break through the barriers of what is assumed to be possible, over and over again.

Whether or not you are an Olympic athlete, you have the same power to break through barriers in your own life. In the game of life, we face hurdles almost constantly. Often these hurdles seem just too high. Each time you run across a hurdle that seems just too high, you have a choice to make. You can stick with your familiar old story about who you are, back away from the hurdle and resign yourself to a smaller life. Or you can reach beneath and beyond the concealing glass into the unbounded potential of your truer self. There, you already have the untapped power to jump higher and farther than ever before, and in doing so expand the very boundaries of the person you’ve assumed yourself to be.

Any time you do this, you’ve taken a piece of darkness – whether your own limiting stories, the obstacle in your way, your fear, resignation or self-doubt – and used it as the impetus to draw more light, power and aliveness from the essence of who you are. That’s one of the reasons that you’re here.

Next time you hear yourself saying or thinking something like: “I’m just not the type”, “I can’t”, or “I’m afraid”, think of the tiger and the elephant. Knowing that you’re creating your own cage is the first step in breaking free. Then, just as an experiment, ask yourself what you would do if you were the type, if you could do it, or if you weren’t afraid. If you ask yourself this question, you may be surprised at how clear and available the answers are.

Then, as a bonus, even though it ‘just isn’t you’, even though you’re scared, try taking action based on these answers and see what happens.

It’s time to turn some darkness into light.
